City to Convert One-Way Streets to Two-Way
By Mike Schulte | Wednesday, September 16, 2009
City officials in Lima are currently proposing preferred changes for downtown streets, converting many one-way streets to two-way, adding landscaping, and designated bike paths. A meeting was held on Wednesday to discuss these changes and take comments. Comments are welcome on the City’s Public Works website section at http://www.cityhall.lima.oh.us/dept/public_works/ALLtrafficinfo.asp
Officials will hold another discussion to share the final plans for conversion of several one-way streets into two-way boulevards that will have space for both automobile traffic, parking, and bike lanes.
The city wants to change Elm, Spring, Wayne, West, and Elizabeth Streets to two-way traffic. Converting the roads to two-way traffic will allow for almost 150 additional parking spots downtown, as well as space for street-side landscaping.
“It’s exactly what I was thinking,” Stover said. “We get more parking, green space, a place for bike traffic. Every road planned should have that now. The time has come for that.”
The construction schedule has work starting in late 2010 to 2011, occurring in four phases.
